Drawing from behavioral science, we coach from an integrated, ontological perspective: exploring how you think about an issue (cognitive processing), how you feel about it (emotional processing), and how you act toward it (behavioral processing). And we examine how your thinking and actions fit within the entire system in which you operate.

We favor relatively short-term executive coaching, not dependency. Our objective is to help clients develop skills they can draw on for a lifetime.

Specific Techniques

We advocate evidence-based management, evidence-based coaching, and fact-based decision making. And yet, we tend not to use “assessment instruments” in coaching.

That might surprise you, especially if you know how fond so many other coaches seem to be of them. Our reason is simple: in our experience, such “assessments” or tests tend to be more limiting and restrictive than helpful.

We see coaching as an act of liberation — a means to break free from constrictions, to move beyond your current proficiencies to fulfill your innate potential — not as an exercise in labeling your past confinements.

When behavioral concerns or self-refinement is on a client’s coaching agenda, we often deploy an enlightening, narrative 360-degree interview process. By gathering candid feedback from about a dozen people important to you, you’ll learn about yourself and how you are perceived through the eyes of others. Our highly refined process allows for depth and nuance in a highly efficient manner.

Coaching Specialties

We work with accomplished, motivated people wrestling with complexity under pressure:

  • Executives and professionals expected to meet critical challenges, especially those involving ethical or moral dilemmas;
  • Executives and professionals facing great change (new expectations; new responsibilities; a new organization, new boss, new job…)
  • Executive teams looking to increase effectiveness — especially by resolving their internal conflicts;
  • High-powered people who need to build — or rebuild — trust within their team

Based in Virginia, we have clients in many time zones, and do a mix of coaching in-person, by telephone, and using all manner of electronic media.
